Washington, DC artist Robin Davisson working on a Commission for Reed House

MEET THE ARTIST, ROBIN DAVISSON

A commission is part science, part art.

Sciencebecause there’s a methodical process, lots of experimentation, and a little chemistry.

Art because, well – you get the picture.

Formerly a biomedical researcher for more than 25 years, art is my second-act career that’s led to colorful results. Past commission clients include Georgetown University, Carlyle Crossing, Edith Gregson Interiors, private collectors, and more.

Today, I work and play in StudioLab RD, nestled in the heart of Georgetown in Washington, D.C. It’s a casual, comfortable space that reimagines the idea of a typical “white box” gallery. You’re invited to visit, chat, and watch while I work. Yes, that means you’ll see my studio in all its messy glory.

Fine art is relational—not transactional

Commissions are an especially intimate process. That’s why when I take on a client, it’s about so much more than delivering a painting.

It’s learning about who the artwork is for and how you want them to feel in the space.

It’s experiencing the room where your art will live, so it can contribute to the energetic conversation.

It’s giving you a glimpse of the creative process, so it’s less mysterious and entirely thrilling.

Excited to work together?
I am, too!

CASE STUDY: GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY

Georgetown University’s Reed House is a stately townhome located steps from the heart of campus. Part of the alumni complex, it has hosted countless alumni and friends of the university over the years and underwent a yearlong renovation to reenergize the space.

“ROBIN, YOUR CREATIONS ARE STUNNING. Thank you for your energy, brilliance, love, and thoughtfulness you put into them. I love that I can stand in the front hall and see all three pieces at the same time. They bring the house to life and I could not be more thrilled.”

– Julie Farr, Executive Director, Georgetown University Alumni Association

I was honored to create three custom pieces for the residence. Read the press.
